Join us for a presentation by Mary Albertson from the Stanford University Office of Technology Licensing (OTL). SCU seeks to establish a culture of innovation where technology development is a routine step in a research program. To this end, SCU has contracted with the Stanford’s OTL to evaluate invention disclosures, manage patent procedures, and coordinate technology licensing for University-owned inventions. Come and learn more about intellectual property, patents, and technology licensing at this informational seminar and Q&A session
Faculty Voice Workout

3:30 – 5:00 p.m., Rehearsal Hall, Mayer Theatre Building
Interested in improving your speaking voice or presentation skills? Looking for ways to prevent vocal exhaustion or hoarseness at the end of a long week of lecturing? Prof. Kimberly Mohne Hill from the Department of Theatre & Dance will lead you through a series of exercises designed to help actors keep their voices healthy, strong, and flexible. These exercises will give you a sense of freedom and control, and you will come away with new tools to keep your sound interesting and healthy. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited: Please make sure to RSVP if you plan to attend.
VITAL (Vitality in Teaching and Learning): Winter Quarter Meetings

Googling for Information

Do your students Google for information rather than use the library’s databases? Do they often claim that the library “has nothing” on their topics? Do you feel that the quality of student research is declining? Come learn more about Google, the library’s databases, and student information-seeking skills and behavior at this workshop and discussion led by Gail Gradowski, SCU reference/instruction librarian. Gail has taught information literacy classes to thousands of SCU students at all levels and in a wide range of disciplines.
Course Development and Classroom Management: Techniques for the New Professor

In this talk, first given as part of Stanford University’s Future Faculty Seminar, Prof. Phil Kesten (Physics) will address: • Preparing a syllabus… and, more generally, preparing to teach • Making the best use of the classroom environment • Assessing student learning… and your teaching • Mentoring… and, more generally, opportunities outside the classroom Phil is one of SCU’s most honored teachers. He was named the California Professor of the Year in 2005 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Education and is a recipient of SCU’s Brutocao Award for Teaching Excellence. His talk is especially geared toward new faculty but will be of interest to old hands as well.
