    The Department of Computer Engineering is pleased to announce its new Bachelor of Science degree program in Web Design and Engineering which will be available to students beginning in Fall 2009.

  •  New Degree Program Starting in Fall 2009

    The department has received final approval to offer a new Bachelor of Science degree program in Web Design and Engineering starting in Fall 2009.  The program combines a technical education in computing with required courses in graphic art, communication and sociology to prepare graduates who can develop and maintain the infrastructure of the Web, while understanding how it affects society and how the ways in which it is used create new demands on technology.   •  Degree Name Change Approved

    The Academic Affairs Committee and Provost approved the department's proposal to change the name of our degree from “Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering” to “Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering.”  The new degree name better describes our current curriculum, and better conveys that our program emphasizes both the theory and practice of computing, through both software and hardware systems. We feel that the new degree name accurately describes the strong, well-rounded computing education our graduates possess.

  •  ACM Chapter Officially Rechartered

    Our ACM club is now officially chartered with the national ACM.

  •  ACM Chapter Officially Restarted

    The department's ACM chapter has been officially restarted this year with new officers and a new advisor. For Winter 2008, meeetings will be held on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:00 pm in EC 106. Lunch will be provided.
  •  Nam Ling Elevated to IEEE Fellow

    Nam Ling, professor of computer engineering, has been elevated to IEEE Fellow "for contributions to video coding algorithms and architectures."
  •  Student Lunch Series Started

    The department has initiated a new event for freshmen and transfer students. Groups of three or four students will be invited for lunch at Adobe Lodge with a faculty member.
  •  ACM Chapter Revitalized

    The department has revitalized its ACM student chapter with new events and a new advisor. The new chapter advisor is Professor Silvia Figueira. This year, the chapter will hold a number of events, ranging from guest lectures to pizza parties.
  •  Nam Ling Honored for Excellence in Scholarship

    Nam Ling, Professor of Computer Engineering and Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development, received the University's highest honor for scholarly achievement, the Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship.
